Make, dance, and carnival with your family!

On August 2, 2026, at Branch Park Moriya in Moriya City, Ibaraki Prefecture,
we held the "Carnival Creation Workshop".

What we made this time was a samba stick to enjoy the carnival even more.

About 12 parent-child pairs and others participated, and each completed their own unique samba stick while adding their own decorations.

Carnival Tools Made with Enthusiasm

Choosing colors and decorations, pasting, and combining.

Not only children, but adults too, were engrossed in decorating together.

Even using the same materials, each completed samba stick turned out completely different.

Having the goal of "dancing with this" makes the crafting itself a preparation for the carnival.

Participating not just by watching, but by creating yourself.

In this workshop, we focused on creating that kind of entry point.

Trying Samba Steps Too

After the samba sticks were completed, we also practiced samba steps a little.

Instead of memorizing difficult choreography, we started by moving our bodies to the music.

By holding the samba sticks they made and actually moving their bodies, the children gradually got into the carnival spirit.

By experiencing both "making" and "dancing" together, samba becomes more familiar.

The Sense of Accomplishment for the Next Step

After the workshop, a samba performance was scheduled at the Branch Moriya beer garden.

However, on this day, there was a considerable gap between the end of the workshop and the performance, and with a forecast of rain, many of the participants could not stay for the beer garden.

That was a bit disappointing.

On the other hand, we felt a strong sense of accomplishment from the children's focused expressions during the workshop, their reactions upon completing their samba sticks, and their attempts at the steps.

"Dancing while using what you made."

If we can connect this flow within a closer timeframe, more people will be able to participate in the carnival more naturally.

Through this event, we've also gained insights for the next one.

On the next date, August 30th, we will dance samba using the samba sticks we create!

The next event is on August 30, 2026.

We have a workshop scheduled from 16:00 and a samba performance from 17:00.

This time, the workshop and performance times are close together, allowing participants to enjoy the samba session with the samba sticks they made themselves.

It's not just about making them,

Create → Dance → Enjoy the carnival together.

Next time, we want to connect this series of experiences more solidly.
