Background
For the "Marvelous 10th Anniversary Event," we received a request to "create a memorable space for an anniversary event" and "build excitement throughout the venue before the matches."
The requirement was not just for a show, but for an opening production that would build audience anticipation within the flow of the entire event and lead into the matches.
Objective
To realize a large-scale samba show with 32 performers and create an opening act that would symbolize the anniversary event.
We also aimed to maximize the exhilaration unique to sports events, with performers, audience, and organizers united as one.
SOU AZUL's Involvement
SOU AZUL was responsible for the overall planning, direction, performer production, and operations.
We produced everything from dancer recruitment and casting, formation design, music composition, rehearsal management, costume color coordination, to day-of operational management.
Additionally, we established a project team called "Marvelous Samba" to create a system that allowed many dancers to participate.
Previous Efforts
Multiple rehearsals were conducted leading up to the main event, meticulously adjusting formations and movement lines unique to large groups.
Young dancers were brought in for choreography, incorporating fresh, contemporary Brazilian expressions to create a stage where all 32 performers moved as one.
Furthermore, by repeatedly sharing the concept with the performers, we prepared them to approach the main event with a shared sense of purpose.
Future Development
For sports events and large-scale productions, direction that designs the atmosphere and emotions in line with the overall event objectives, not just arranging performers, is required.
SOU AZUL will continue to develop productions that create the optimal "CARNIVAL" for each occasion by integrating planning, direction, casting, and operations alongside show production.
